Today
I went to Paestum.
| |

01) POSITANO | My
nice room. 65, 000 Lire a night (including breakfast) - about $30
at the time. |
|

02) POSITANO | The
view from my window.

03) POSITANO | Breakfast.
The place setting at the table is mine. I think I was the only one (other
than the owners) staying at the Casa
Celeste.

04) POSITANO | Morning
in Positano.

05) PAESTUM | The
ruins of Paestum are only about 30+ miles from Positano, but once you
figure in bus stops, waiting, transfers, winding roads, etc., it takes
about 4 hours to get there...and another four hours to get back. I'm not
so sure it was worth it. I ended up staying only about 90 minutes. The
temples are interesting, but if I had to do it again, I would probably
spend my time exploring Positano or one of the neighboring villages. This
is the Temple of Ceres (6th century BC).

06) PAESTUM | Outside
the amphitheatre looking towards the Temple of Neptune.

07) PAESTUM | Inside
the Amphitheatre. The ruins were discovered in the 18th Century by a road
crew who built their road right through the middle of this structure.

08) PAESTUM | The
Temple of Neptune. Paestum is/was actually part of the ancient Greek Empire.

09) PAESTUM | The
Temple of Ceres.

10) PAESTUM | A
postcard shot - showing an aerial view of the site. Half of the amphitheatre
is visible midway along the right edge of the photo. The Temple of Argive
Hera is in the foreground, followed by the Temple of Neptune, and beyond
it, the Temple of Ceres.

11) POSITANO | Beautiful
by day, enchanting by night.

12) POSITANO | I
took this shot right outside my hotel. My window is the one you see (with
the shutters).
