I spent the
entire day in Vienna. Around 10:30am, I checked out of my hotel and took
my pack to the train station and placed it in a locker. I retreived it
prior to boarding the night train for Venice.

01) VIENNA | One
of two Art Nouveau subway stations by Otto Wagner.

02) VIENNA | The
Seccession Building by Joseph Olbrecht.

03) VIENNA | Simon
& Garfunkle with an Austrian accent on the steps of the Looshaus.
He played for about thirty minutes ending with a soulfull rendition of
"Bridge Over Troubled Water."
| |

04) VIENNA | The
Hundertwasser Haus - by Hundertwasser. This is your architecture.
This is your architecture on drugs. Any questions? |
|
| |

05) VIENNA | The
Public Utilities building (at the Spittelauer metro stop) also by
Hunterwasser. |
|

06) VIENNA | The
Post Office Savings Bank, by Otto Wagner.

07) VIENNA | At
one point, I considered renting a car...
| |

08) VIENNA | The
Ankerhaus by Otto Wager (on my study).
I especially like the way they spell "shops"! |
|
| |

09) VIENNA | St.
Stephans Cathedral. I popped up right in front of it when I arrived
from the train station via the subway. I wasn't expecting to arrive
in the very heart of Vienna! It was something of a shock. The guy
on the pedestal is the best "living statue" I have ever
seen. He would stand there all day with only short "crouching"
breaks to give his legs a rest. |
|
| |

10) VIENNA | The
can at his feet contains donations. The little guy just attempted
to look inside.
|
|
| |

11) VIENNA | The
boy just put a coin or two in the can and is being rewarded with a
handshake. If you look closely, the cowboy has his left hand on a
horn, which he squeezes vigorously has he shakes. |
|
| |

12) VIENNA | Contrast
of old and new. At the right, St. Stephans Cathedral (several hundred
years old), at left, the shiny facade of the Neus Haas Haus by Hans
Hollein (see my study entry
for details). |
|

13) VIENNA | Neus
Haas Haus.

14) VIENNA | The
Haas Haus at night. There are lights in the street that radiate out from
it. The Ankerhaus is visible as the 3rd building in from the left. The
plaza is full of people and activity well into the evening, but my 30
second exposure reduces them to a few faint ghosts.
