After two
nights in Naples it was definitely time to leave. Destination: Positano.

01) AMALFI COAST | I
boarded the Circumvesuviana train at Naples central station and rode it
its entire length to the town of Salerno. There I boarded a bus to Positano.
The road winds along the cliff faces. At one point we had to slow down
as a film crew had taken over part of the road for filming (above).

02) AMALFI COAST | Eventually,
we were allowed to pass. I later heard a rumor that Tom Cruise was filming
a movie here. I have yet to find proof of this, although at one point
I did happen to overhear two people with the production talking about
upcoming scenes. Both had American accents.

03) Positano | I
missed the first bus stop (at the top of the town), because my pack and
I were buried at the back of the bus. This shot is taken a few steps away
from the lower bus stop. I ended up walking through the town a mile or
two until I found a place to stay.

04) POSITANO | After
getting set up in a Pensione, I went and got something to eat (grapes,
Ritz crackers, & juice) and happily ate my lunch on this very bench.
| |

05) POSITANO | One
of the many narrow passageways throughout the town. |
|
| |

06) POSITANO | Another. |
|

07) POSITANO | Heading
back to my room. It's actually visible in this shot, but simply saying
it's the pink building with the green shutters probably won't help you
find it!

08) POSITANO | It's
also visible in this shot.

09) POSITANO | Positano
has two beaches. This is the larger main beach. Both are gravelly, rocky
affairs - similar to those found at Cinqe Terre. Even though they are
colder and windier, I prefer the fine, sandy beaches of my native Oregon.
But who can complain?

10) POSITANO | Looking
the other way. This hill divides Positano in to two sections. I stayed
in on the other side of it.
