I spent
the first few hours of the morning in Salzburg and then caught a train
to Vienna.

01) SALZBURG | Back
on the footbridge (Müllnersteg).
| |

02) SALZBURG | A
courtyard. The elevator on the cliff face goes up to a restaurant. |
|
| |

03) SALZBURG | All
signs should be this cool. |
|
| |

04) SALZBURG | Ah!
The American embassy! I was wondering where it was. |
|
| |

05) SALZBURG | Mozart's
birth house in the morning. |
|

06) SALZBURG | One
of the 150 differently painted cows in Salzburg. Following successful
"cow parades" in Geneva and then in Chicago they invaded Salzburg
and New York in the fall of 2000. The way it works is that local businesses
sponsor one or more fiberglass cows and collaborate with an artist to
paint them. Locals and tourists alike can vote for their favorite with
$ or just donate $ to a gold cow 'specially encased in a clear plastic
box. The money is then given to a local children's charity. Portland (Oregon,
US where I live) is now in the process of doing the same event. The cows
are being designed and painted as I type this (September 2001).

07) VIENNA |
Mid-afternoon in Vienna. I stayed at the Pensione Mozart (the building
in shadow at left). Mozart lived here briefly. |
|

08) VIENNA | The
Butterfly House. They actually do live inside.

09) VIENNA | The
Majolika Haus (apartments) by Otto Wagner - another one of the buildings
of my study.

10) VIENNA | Detail
of the cornice.

11) VIENNA | The
neighboring "Medallion" Haus (also apartments, also by Wagner,
also one of the buildings of my study).
| |

12) VIENNA | Detail
from the "Medallion" Haus. |
|

13) VIENNA | The
Goldman & Salatsch Building ("Looshaus") by Adolf Loos.
Was it...why yes it was! (part of my study)
