Although I was "on my own" for most of this little excursion, thanks must be given where thanks is due!

Thanks to my former employer for helping to sponser my travels.

Special thanks to the following individuals for going out of their way to help point me in the right direction(s):

Extra special thanks to Eron Witzel for taking the time - several days worth - to help me adjust to the European way of life. ("In my country, we would never do it this way...")

HOW'D YOU DO THAT?!

Except as noted, all the photos on this site were taken by myself, on location, with the following equipment:

  • Canon EOS A2 body (for 35mm slides)
  • Canon EOS IX body (for 24mm APS stills)
  • Tokina AF 17mm F/3.5 wide angle lens
  • Tamron AF 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 zoom lens
  • Tiffen UV Haze filter (each lens)
  • Tiffen Circular Polarizer (each lens)
  • Kodak film (Advantix 100, 200, & 400 for stills | Ectachrome E100SW36 for slides)

For the most part, shots were hand-held, except in southern Tunisia where the wide open spaces let me use my tripod without disruption. In addition, I mostly shot using "aperature prioty" mode at f/22 with my polarizer dialed in full. Call it inexperience.

Upon my return, slides were developed by Wy'East Color and stills were processed by Costco.

I scanned the slides and stills using a Canon Canoscan D1230U and touched up the digital files where necessary with Adobe Photoshop 5.0. All were saved as jpeg files using mid-level compression in hopes of retaining clarity and maintaining some sort of speedy download. I recognise that the results are mixed for anyone using a 56kps or less modem.

I designed and laid out all of the pages on this site with Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 running on an Apple G3 iMac DV SE (500mHz / 128ram).

All stills were acquired from the Internet or scanned from other sources (magazines, trading cards, etc.). Many of the RAIDERS stills were "captured" from the VHS recording of a SciFi Channel widescreen broadcast of that film.

Update January 2006: For the past few months, Colin Kentworthy and I have been exchanging emails about our mutual interest in Tunisia. Inspired by those, I've compiled a list of links to other sites (including his). I have attempted to list them by the date (roughly) that the photos contained within were taken. If you have corrections or additions to this list, please email them to me at:  cheetah_babies@yahoo.com or mitch@harashick.com

Updated Links 2008.10.18:

There are many, many, many more photos to be found at the various photo-sharing sites on the web. Most galleries have been products of excursions from the past 5 years, but occasionally you can find something a little older. As a start, try searching the following using the keywords, "star wars tunisia"...

Thanks for taking the time to visit. I hope you enjoyed my trip as much as I did.
