After spending
the night in Stromberg, we continued on to Munich via the Romantische
Strasse (Romantic Road).
01) ALONG THE ROMANTISCHE STRASSE |
Now ve are in Germany, so ve must be very serious!
02) DINKELSBÜHL | Dinkelsbühl
is one of several surviving medieval villages in Germany. It happens to
be situated along the pictureseque "Romantic Road" - which roughly
starts at the Black Forest and ends south of Munich.
03) DINKELSBÜHL |
This foot bridge goes over a small ravine just outside the village wall.
There is a garden at one end of it.
04) MUNICH | We
got in to Munich in the mid-afternoon. This is the main pedestrian avenue.
The entrance to the subway (metro) is in the foreground. The Neus Rathaus
(new town hall) is in the middle distance (with the single spire) and
St. Michael's church is in the background (two spires).
05) MUNICH | The
famous Hofbrau Haus. There was an "oom-pa" band within, as well
as plenty of drunk tourists. I was more impressed by the beer tents at
the fairgrounds.
06) MUNICH | The
courtyard of the town hall.
07) MUNICH | Further
down the pedestrian avenue.
08) MUNICH | A
boar statue. You'll notice his tusks are shiny. That comes from people
rubbing them. How do I know it is a "him" you ask? His tusks
weren't the only things shining!
09) MUNICH | This
fellow is a street clown. Right now he's "directing traffic."
His showstopper consisted of a move where by he raises one of his pants'
legs slightly - revealing a plastic penis. I kid you not. He would then
make eye contact with passers-by and point at it. It wasn't shiny.
10) MUNICH | End
of the pedestrian avenue.
|
11) MUNICH | This
"painting" was done with colored chaulk. The artist was
only able to finish a little over half of it before dusk, so he simply
left it taped to the street until the next day (it survived the night
absolutely untouched). |
|
12) MUNICH | Here's
another.
|
13) MUNICH | A
graceful statue at the other end of the pedestrian avenue.
