Our History

Tataouine Tours began as an idea by Jeremy Beckett in the spring of 1999 when he had the opportunity to have a holiday in Tunisia, and to visit all its Star Wars locations. The 2000 km expedition to visit all the existing filming locations of Star Wars: A New Hope and the forthcoming The Phantom Menace required a great deal of co-ordination and planning. 

After returning from the excursion to Tunisia in November of 1999, the data gathered during the previous year had been tested to the fullest, and found to be accurate, concise and current. Rather than waste this information the On Location Guidebook was formulated. Using the photos, video footage and notes collected an accompanying map set was produced. Two video documentaries are also in production - one to provide information on the location references for fans who want to get as close to the sites without leaving their chairs, and another to help the world traveller while they are hunting out the Star Wars locations whilst in Tunisia. (These are expected to be released back-to-back in April 2002.) In February of 2000 Tataouine Tours was established as a means to spread the news of the production sites of Star Wars in Tunisia, and to encourage fans to visit the sites. 

In 2001, when word had spread and the On Location Guidebook began to be sought after by curious Star Wars enthusiasts, a London promotions firm commissioned a luxury holiday to The Phantom Menace sets as a prize for a Star Wars competition for a major British digital broadcasting company. In the same year Tataouine Tours was further approached by two international magazines requiring experienced travel planners for a number of fashion shoots in the Saharan desert.

It has since provided advice and resources to Star Wars fans interested in making the journey, and hosts the travellogues of their journeys. In October 2001 eleven people are being guided through Tunisia by Tataouine Tours. More trips are planned in 2002, so if you are interested please contact us to discuss arrangements. Over the years Tataouine Tours has gained a number of outside sources for information about Star Wars and Tunisia, and has continued to prove itself to be the premier travel provider for Star Wars travellers the world over.
