Stovepipe Wells is located approximately 20 miles north of the concentration of sites in Death Valley. There are some sand dunes there, and one of them was used for the shot of R2 rolling away from C-3PO after the two first landed on Tatooine. We did not have time to visit this site during our trip, but we did have to go to Stovepipe Wells for gasoline. The Furace Creek gas station closes early, the one in Stovepipe Wells is open later. If you're traveling south, you won't come across more gas for 60 miles or so. Death Valley is not a good place to run out of gas.
