SWFO in Death Valley - The Sand Dunes
3-12-02

To walk through some of the dunes that were tred by C-3PO & R2-D2 in "A New Hope" was exceptional, to say the least. Unfortunately, the dunes were the last stop on our agenda that day, and by the time we got to the site, the sun had basically already set. Luckily, there was still a little residual light in the sky, which allowed us to make the half-mile walk from the road out to the dunes themselves. By the time we actually completed the half-mile walk, light was a rare commodity indeed. We truly did not have high expectations at all for any of the pictures that we were taking, simply because there just wasn't very much light. Hoping for the best, I activated a night-time flash setting on my camera, and began to shoot away.

When we got the pictures developed, needless to say, we were completely blown away. The colors that you will see in the following photographs were simply an artificially-created anomoly. The sky was pretty much close to black. How did these shots end up like this, you ask? We have no clue. In the end, we decided that it was simply because the Force had truly been with us that day.
