Here's the link to a recent story on Rebelscum staring Colin: http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/2010_Tatooine_Reunion_131623.asp

Some nice photos there. It looks as though the Sidi D'Jemour mosque has a lot LESS vegetation around it than there was when I visited in 2000.

Edited to add a mirror link: http://theforce.net/topstory/story/2010_Tatooine_Reunion_131697.asp

Interestingly, the author claims that GLADIATOR was filmed at the amphitheater of El Jem. I don't know where he's getting his information. There is nothing on the DVD to back up that claim, nor is there anything here.

Edited again to add a trip report (with photos) by Mark Dermul:

I had a great time (although quite short) visiting Kairouan's open squares and alleyways with the group.
I too, understood location shooting for Gladiator was UK, Morocco and Malta (where Ollie Reed sadly died).
Thanks for posting the links.

Another update:

Mark Dermul is interviewed on the latest episode of The Forcecast. Nice interview. Marks voice completely reminds me of Colin Hay and I kept half-expecting him to extol the virtues of vegemite!

Great links!!

It is taking me a lifetime to get my photos all together (as I also had extended stays in Paris and Barcelona on each end of my week in Tunisia). I am writing up a full report, but it is secondary to the photos and comparison sets that I have been working on, some of which are finally up!!

Very nice! It looks like you had great weather on Jerba (it was overcast when I was on the island). I also noticed that Obi-Wan's house has changed slightly in the last 30+ years. Some of the buttresses have been removed from the right side and at least one new one appears on the back.

I especially liked your shots inside the cantina. I didn't think to peek inside when I was there. I did have a look inside Obi-Wan's house and at the Sidi D'Jemour mosque as both were unoccupied and the doors were open (or non-existent).

I liked the shots inside the cantina also. There was someone living there when I visited so we kept our distance.

The Ksar Hedada hotel and the renovated rooms look great. I wonder what it would be like to stay there for a night?
