There is an active campaign to save the Lars Homestead. Several recent visitors, including Mark Dermul, are raising money to return and restore the place. Sounds like a cool idea and it looks like they are well on their way to raising the necessary funds. I'd love to participate myself, but it sounds as though they are keeping the group small. Plus, having been unemployed since Feb 2009, I don't really have the funds myself for such an adventure.
