On May 1, 1977, Star Wars was screened to a test-audience at the Northpoint Theatre in San Francisco. It is no longer a theatre, but now an office building for an animation company. The exterior is the same as it was in the 1970's though. I thought it would be great to visit the site where Star Wars first played. So, on Sunday April 29, I made the trek westward from Toronto. I went to the Northpoint on May 1, arriving at 10:00am, the time at which Star Wars began thirty years earlier. I am wearing an authentic 1977 "May The Force Be With You" t-shirt issued to ushers at theaters playing the movie. Interestingly, I was the only Star Wars fan to visit the site that day.
For anyone who is interested, I am hosting an exhibit of Star Wars items in Toronto to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the film. Titled "Assembling A Galaxy", it will run from June 29 to August 26 - the first Star Wars exhibit in Canada. See a promotional flyer at www.secretbookcase.com
Thanks, Ian
