Later in the film Maximus is condemned to death. Supposedly he is ridden several miles for the execution - however this area is to be found just behind the battlefield!

One of the guards struggles with his sword as Maximus turns on him. The snow-covered area in the background is in fact the battlefield used earlier.

Efforts to match the trees exactly were in vain, but this may be the long gap through the trees where the Praetorian gallops to cut Maximus down.
