07.12.99 I have heard some recent news about Tunisia: 1) According to a local rumor in Tozeur (where the Mos Espa scenes of TPM were filmed), a set of Star Wars episode 2 would be build around the town of Midès (near the Algerian border) for july 2000 2) The crew and the set will be protected by the tunisian army during sumer 2000. 3) The set will be let intact after the filming in order to become a tourist attraction.
Midès is famous for being surrounded by high canyons that would suit perfectly for westerns. A french movie called "Fort Sagane" starring Gerard Depardieu and Sophie Marceau was done a few years ago in this place.
These infos are still rumors but sounds real. Again, I am waiting for confirmations .... In the mean time, I will post very soon some pictures of news geografic sites of TPM.
05.28.99 A local contact told me that the Lucasfilm crew should come in Tunisa next Fall or Winter for the shooting of Episode II. Unlike the Episode I and ANH, the landscape would be used this time to represent an other planet as Tatooine (to be confirmed).
03.15.99 I obtained a confirmation from Philip Vanni that Ksar Ouled Soltane (the Slave Quarter) was filmed during summer 98 for TPM. Another geografic SW site is born !
