There is an active campaign to save the Lars Homestead. Several recent visitors, including Mark Dermul, are raising money to return and restore the place. More information is available at their facebook page or at Mark's own page (savetheigloo.info also directs to Mark's page). In addition, Mark was interviewed about the project on this week's Forecast. You can download the mp3 directly. His segment is near the end of the show.

Sounds like a cool idea and it looks like they are well on their way to raising the necessary funds. I'd love to participate myself, but it sounds as though they are keeping the group small. Plus, having been unemployed since Feb 2009, I don't really have the funds myself for such an adventure.

It does sound like a cool idea. I made a donation the other day and wish them the best of luck. Should be interesting to see the pictures after they finish their work.

The guys behind http://www.savelars.com/ have made a book:
http://www.lulu.com/shop/mark-dermul/save-the-lars-homestead/hardcover/product-20296096.html?showPreview=true

The price is $67.90 (!) + tax and shipping (!!), though you can save 20% off the base price by using the coupon code AUGBOOKS12. I haven't read/seen it, so I can't comment on level of quality of it. You can preview a few pages at the lulu.com link above.

Thanks for posting the coupon code. It is a little expensive, but I think I'll still be getting a copy. Mark posted a pic of him holding the book in the Facebook group and it looks pretty nice:

You'll have to let me know how it is in terms of quality. I have a few of these made-to-order types of books and some are definitely better than others as far as the printing and binding goes.

I placed my order the other day and will let you know how it looks once it arrives. Mark's other books by Lulu have all been paperback, but the quality in general seemed pretty good.

I have this book, which I used a 15% off coupon for, and it is very well put together. The company that prints and binds the hardback books (lulu.com) do a very good and professional job. The book has quite a lot of pages hence the price and postage, but you should be able to find a 15 or 20 percent off voucher code for lulu.com from time to time.
David Dorman, the Star Wars artist, has donated a 2 page artwork inside the book, and Mark Hamill has donated a few words on the back cover. It documents the group, the restoration and the general environment very well, with a couple of pages turned over to Star Wars Canyon and the Mos Espa set.
